Glass Bottle Smasher

Using the Glasshopper™ CS3500 glass bottle smasher, you can easily reduce the volume of you empty beer bottles, wine bottles, and liquor bottles. The reduction in volume is 5 to 1 and disposal is very easy. Simply place the bottles into the smasher from the top of the machine and the glass will be pulverized into small pieces which are collected in the bin below.

Fluorescent Light Tubes Disposal Machine

Akon allows you to have an alternative to traditional fluorescent light tube disposal methods which include carefully packaging the light bulbs into boxes. Our disposal machine allows you the benefit of reducing this labor intensive practice and also saves you money in the process.

By crushing your fluorescent light tubes at your facility you can GREATLY reduce the storage space that they take up and save on the labor and material that they require to manually package.

Fluorescent Light Disposal Machine Info

The machine can handle several types of fluorescent light tubes such as straight two, four, five, and eight-foot tubes, "U" shaped tubes, T-8, T-12, and T-17 tubes. In fact, the crusher can handle just about any length of light bulb. The speed of the crush is also very fast, in just 1 second a 48” bulb is completely pulverized. This happens at such a fast speed due to the use of the onboard vacuum which sucks the bulb in at a very fast rate. The vacuum also prevents any of the toxic mercury from floating out of the entry chute where the bulb is fed into.

The complete process from beginning to end

Step 1: The spent lamp is removed from the fixture, very carefully of course to prevent breakage.

Step 2: The lamp is walked over to the machine by the operator. He also ensures that the feeding chute has the correct diameter attachment installed.

Step 3: The operator carefully lowers the bulb into the fluorescent light tube disposal machine where it is sucked in by the vacuum.

Step 4: The light tube enters the machine and it is quickly shredded by a spinning head, not much different than that of a weed trimmer.

Step 5: The crushed bulb pieces falls to the bottom of the 55 gallon drum while the unsafe vapors and dust is forced into the 3 stage filter which removes 99.99% of the harmful vapors. Once filtered, clean air exhausts the machine into the atmosphere, much like that of a shop vacuum.

You can see that operating the machine is as simple as simply dropping light tubes into the machine. Once the drums are filled, you simply call Akon and we will connect you with a local recycler who will take the filled drum to their recycling facility.

Why Does Michigan Oversee Fluorescent Light Bulb Disposal

While fluorescent light bulbs are much more efficient than an incandescent bulb, they do pose a serious health risk and environmental risk should they break open at a landfill. The mercury contained within these lamps is very dangerous and can pollute a great deal of water should it leak into the water system. In fact, just one broken lamp can pollute 6,000 gallons of water. While each individual lamp does not have a great deal of mercury, the combination on many of them can do a great deal of harm.

There are only a few methods which you can use for your fluorescent lamp disposal based on the latest laws and regulations. One option is to contract with a recycling company to haul away your spent lamps for disposal once you collect many boxes of them which you have to store until you amass a large collection of them. Or, you can use an Akon onsite crusher which will shred the lamps into tiny bits that collect in standard fifty five gallon drums. Each drum will hold up to about 1350 crushed bulbs and will take up a fraction of the space of the traditional “box and store” method.

Using our method for fluorescent lamps disposal

You will use less space in your facility, save on labor which is required to package the lamps, and better protect your associates from being accidentally cut. A little know fact is that many of the accidental bulb breaks occur during the boxing process. These breaks, while dangerous to the skin, are also dangerous to the lungs. Regulations

Fluorescent Light Tube Crusher

There are many different types of fluorescent light tubes used in offices and facilities around the United States. While the type of light tubes used varies based upon the type of building and their lighting needs, one constant remains. There are often hundreds of thousands of bulbs which need to be replaced and disposed of. To make matters worse, each of these light tubes contains some amount of mercury-containing calcium phosphate powder. The amount of mercury within each of these light tubes varies upon their brightness, size, and the supplier. The problem is that disposing of this many lamps will result in injuries, storage costs, disposal costs, and pollution of the atmosphere.

Traditionally these Spent fluorescent light tubes are taken down from the light fixtures and packaged into cardboard containers. The light tubes are then stored in a specific area until they accumulate enough to dispose of them all at once. The boxes are then hauled away and transported to the nearest spent lamp recycling facility. Once they arrive, they are unpacked and loaded onto a conveyor system which moves them into a crusher which operates at negative pressure. The dangerous mercury is then removed and collected into a storage filtration system, while the crushed glass is separated.

This same benefit that takes place at a major recycling center can also be placed right in your shop or office space. With a fluorescent light tube crusher that mounts directly on top of a fifty five gallon drum. The spent tubes are then hand feed into the crusher where they are smashed into tiny particles of glass, while the mercury is collected in a filter.
